该系主要培养既具有深厚经济理论素养又具有较强的实际能力、懂经济、会管理、有较强适应性和创新意识的高级专门人才。该系目前设有经济学本科专业、技术经济与管理、区域经济学硕士专业。
系主任为吴利华教授，浦正宁为副系主任。
该系是国内高校技术经济研究的主要基地之一。承担了国家部委及省市政府约有关重要课题，在企业技术创新理论、知识经济、高新技术开发区建设、东西部科技合作等方面的研究成果产生了较大影响。在人才培养上，该系强调全面提高学生素质，在强化理论学习与实践能力的基础上，注重培养学生积极向上的精神，对事业的执着追求和强烈的创新创业理念。
Department of Economics The Department offers an undergraduate program in economics and one graduate program in technological economics and management and one graduate program in regional economics. The objective of the Department is mainly to cultivate advanced specialized graduates to meet the need of the economic development. The students in this Department are required to own modern theoretical and applied knowledge in economics, have a high competence in English language, apply modern informational technology and show high innovation in economic research. The Department Chair is Prof.Wu Lihua. The Department is one of the principal basses doing research on technological economics among domestic universities. The Department has presided the concerning research programs subsidized by state departments and provincial and municipal governments and made great achievement in corporate technological innovation theories, knowledge-based economy, Hi-Tech zone development and the cooperation between the Eastern and Western Regions in China. The Department attaches great importance in fostering students who develop in an all-round way with strong sense of making innovations and high aspirations based on solid training in both theoretical and practical aspects.
