Good News – The Southeast University MBA team won the third place in the 8th National Management Case Competition

On 20 May 2023, the grand final of the 8th National Management Case Competition was held at Communication University of China (CUC). The competition was guided by the National Steering Committee for Graduate Education of Business Administration, hosted by the China Management Case Sharing Centre and the Management Case Study Professional Committee of the China Management Modernization Research Association, and organized by the School of Economics and Management of Communication University of China. 24 teams from 24 institutions across China battled hard for more than 60 hours to compete against each other. The Southeast University MBA team performed well and won the third place, the "Best Organization Award" and the "Best Online Popularity Award" in the 8th National Management Case Competition.

Team introduction:

After two stages of campus breakout and regional promotion, 24 teams were selected from more than 2,000 teams from 121 colleges to advance to this final. Our team was led by Vice Dean Lv Hongjiang of the School of Economics and Management, Director Yao Jianping of the MBA Centre and Director Zhou Lulu of the Case Centre, with Prof. Hu Hanhui, Prof. Wang Zheng, Prof. Wu Bin and Director Zhou Lulu as instructors. Through the selection of the 2023 MBA Campus Breakout Competition, the Southeast University MBA team finally consisted of a total of 13 MBA students with Chen Yu as the captain.

Competition Review:

The competition is divided into two parts: a blind pre-test and an on-site competition. The blind pre-test was conducted by a panel of judges who anonymously scored each team's case study report (PPT), while the on-site competition consisted of two PK teams drawn by lot to present their views and answer questions. The cases used in the competition was released at 20:00 on 17 May 2023.

The case study of this competition is "Baodao Optical: social media marketing, borrowing others' strength or practicing internal strength? ". The team members of the Southeast University MBA team worked on the case according to the division of labor before the competition. According to the division of labor, the team members of the MBA team of Southeast University carried out a series of intense preparation work, such as case solving, problem analysis, framework construction, information search, PPT writing, stage rehearsal and Q&A preparation. Within 60 hours, after repeated deliberation and rigorous analysis and argumentation overnight, the whole team submitted a case study report entitled "Marketing Change and Development Transformation of Baodao" (PPT), which proposed a systematic marketing development strategy for the enterprise.

On 20 May 2023 at 8:00 a.m., the final of the 8th National Management Case Competition kicked off. 24 teams were divided into three groups and faced each other in two rounds. The final results were presented by four members of the Southeast University MBA team, Chen Yu, Huang Mingxuan, You Bin and Wang An, on the PK stage. They presented in depth, analyzed in detail, asked sharp questions and gave precise answers, and finally won the third place in the competition.

Under the careful guidance of the coaching team with Professor Hu Hanhui as the head coach and the dedicated preparation of the participating team members, Southeast University team once again demonstrated the elegance of the students of Southeast University in the finals of the National Management Case Competition.

During the finals, the team members on the court were calm and expressed their opinions, and the off-court team members assisted and asked sharp questions. The team's sincere cooperation and wonderful presentation not only demonstrated the extraordinary style of the students from Southeast University, but also showed the team's thorough preparation for the competition, which was highly recognized by the competition organizing committee and awarded the "Best Organization Award" by the China Management Case Sharing Centre.

Before the competition, the organizer of the competition collected the popular players from each university and selected the "Best Online Popularity Award" by means of online voting. Chen Yu, the captain of the MBA team from Southeast University, was awarded the prize for her superb popularity.

Post-match summary:

The MBA team of Southeast University has shown the spirit of the students of Southeast University and harvested fruitful results of case building in this national case final. The MBA Centre of the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University will summarize the valuable experience of this competition with the Case Research Centre, pay more attention to the close combination of case teaching and case competition in the future MBA teaching, integrate case building into the MBA training process, and create a new model of "five-in-one" of case research, case development, case teaching, case paper and case competition.  In the future, the MBA Center of the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University will further create more stages for MBA students to show their style and challenge themselves, help MBA students grow better in their career and promote the high-quality development of MBA education of Southeast University.

Competition introduction:

The National Management Case Competition is jointly organized by China Management Case Sharing Centre, China Management Case Centre Alliance, China Management Modernization Research Association and Management Case Research Professional Committee. The competition was launched in March 2013 and has been successfully held for 8 times, divided into three stages: Campus Breakout Competition, Sub-Regional Promotion Competition and National Final. The competition aims to promote and prosper China's business administration education, test the results of case teaching, strengthen exchanges and cooperation among business schools, and enhance the comprehensive analysis and decision-making ability of MBA students through the analysis and discussion of social and economic hot cases, which highly simulate real business battles. The National Management Case Competition has been widely recognized and actively participated by teachers and students of MBA training institutions nationwide, and has been considered by the industry as a professional event with large scale, wide distribution, standardized competition system and high level in China.
