报告内容摘要 | This paper seeks to estimate the urban costs in mainland China and how they vary with city population, using micro-level land transaction data. Although urban costs like traffic congestions and high housing prices are for everyone to observe, we know little about their magnitude. Through systematically estimating urban costs, we could make a precise comparison of urban gains and costs in China, produce the real income curve, and then assess which cities are already too large and those that should be further extended. This research may provide empirical evidence for the choice of future Chinese urbanization mode: “great state needs bigger city” or “further restrict population size of megacities”. | |
