In this talk, I will provide a synthesis of my research projects including the examination of outcomes of urban spatial structure or urban form. Cities are developed in different forms, some cities are more compact while other cities are sprawling; some cites only have one center while other cities are polycentric. Are different forms associated with different outcomes such as travel behavior, air quality, health, and real estate market values? I will describe the research approach, data, methods and results of this string of projects validating good urban form. | |||

宋彦，美国北卡罗来纳大学城市与区域规划系终身正教授、北卡罗来纳大学中国城市研究中心主任、美国林肯土地研究院研究员、及美国城市精明增长研究中心研究员。毕业于美国伊利偌伊大学香槟分校城市与区域规划系获取博士学位。
宋彦的研究方向包括：低碳可持续城市规划、城市规划与交通、城市治理及增长管理、城市规划评估、大数据与智慧城市，以及城市规划决策支持系统应用。宋彦担任多项国内外科研基金研究项目带头人，资助经费达到近千万美元。项目包括美国国家自然科学基金、美国联邦环保署、美国国家健康学院、美国城市发展与住房部、世界银行，中国住房和城乡建设部、美国林肯土地政策研究院、以及中国多个城市政府资助的科研课题。 在关于中国城市化领域的研究中，发表了大量学术期刊文章及著作。包括：《中国城市精明增长》（英文）、《中国城市化：快速发展时代的关键问题》（英文）、《中国土地和住房市场的形成》（英文）、《可持续的城市空间结构》（中文）、《城市规划评估指引》（中文）、《城市空间分析GIS利用》（中文）等。目前正撰写美国城市土地与空间规划经典教材《Urban Land Use Planning》(英文，第六版)等。 联系方式：ys@email.unc.edu | |||
