The problem studied in this research related to a third-party pooler that built a rental and sharing platform to provide customised reusable transport item (RTI) leasing, sharing, logistics and storage services. In practice, with the high cost of RTI placement due to the different IoT hardware equipped, the usability and availability maximisation of RTI and the placement policy are decision pain points for the platform. The RTIs are often left unused in the customers’ warehouse during the rental period. Thus, incentivising the business customers’ sharing and optimising the platform placement decision is worth further research, which has not been well discussed in the current literature. The study, therefore, develops an optimisation decision framework for RTI placement of platforms and financial incentives for business customers to encourage B2B sharing behaviour. The study combines the empirical model and optimisation model. In the empirical part, the quantitative model measures business customers' willingness to share (WTS) in different industries due to different incentive settings and the required number of RTIs. Then, a bi-objective optimisation model and corresponding solving algorithm can be developed to make the platform's optimal RTI purchasing and sharing incentives decisions and the optimal sharing decisions.

Professor Hing Kai Chan is a Professor of Operations Management at the Nottingham University Business School China. He is also the Acting Associated Dean for Education and Student Experience of the School. He received the MSc degree (with distinction) and the PhD degree from the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, University of Hong Kong. He also earned a BEng degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Hong Kong. He received a BSc degree in Economics and Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He worked in the electronic manufacturing industry for over 10 years before joining the academia.
Professor Chan has published over 250 academic articles and 9 monographs/edited volumes. His publications appear in Production and Operations Management, European Journal of Operational Research, various IEEE Transactions, Decision Support Systems, International Journal of Production Economics, and International Journal of Production Research, among others. He has been the co-editor of Industrial Management & Data Systems (SCI-indexed) since 2014 and is an Associate Editor of Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review (SCI-indexed) since 2018. He was the Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics (SCI-indexed) from 2009 to 2015, and the Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics (SCI-indexed) from 2014 to 2017. Professor Chan also serves as an Editorial Board Member (or similar) in a number of journals such as the Journal of Business & Industrial Management (SSCI-indexed), International Journal of Logistics Research and Applications (SSCI-indexed), and Online Information Review (SCI-indexed). He has (co-)edited 15 special issues for reputable international journals.
陈庆佳教授目前是诺丁汉大学商学院(中国)运营管理学教授与)教学与学生体验副院长。陈教授取得香港大学工业与制造系统工程系硕士(优秀)学位与博士学位。他还取得了香港大学的电气与电子工程学士学位。他也在伦敦政治经济学院取得经济学和管理理学学士学位。加入了学术界前,他在电子制造业工作了超过10年。
陈教授已经发表了超过250篇学术文章,并为一些重要国际期刊兼任编辑。他已发表大量文章在生产与运营管理,欧洲运营研究期刊,IEEE Transactions,决策支持系统期刊,生产经济学国际期刊,生产研究国际期刊等。从2014年开始他担任《工业管理和数据系统》杂志的联合主编(SCI-indexed),和从2018年开始他也是《运输研究Part E:物流和交通评论》的副编辑(SCI-indexed)。2009年至2015年间他也是IEEE工业电子期刊的副编辑(SCI-indexed),和2014年至2017年间是IEEE工业信息学期刊的副编辑(SCI-indexed)。 他同时还兼任一些重要期刊的编委会成员,如《商业和工业管理杂志》(SSCI-indexed),《物流研究与应用国际期刊》(SSCI-indexed),《网络信息评论》(SCI-indexed)等。
他是英国工程技术学会会士(FIET)、英国特许市务学会会士(FCIM)和英国高等教育学会资深会士(SFHEA)。另外,他是美国电气和电子工程师学会的资深会员,也是英国国际物流与运输学会(CILT)的会员,同时作为认证工程师 (CEng)和认证市务学员。于2019年被聘请为宁波市供应链创新与应用委员会专家委员。荣获由爱思唯尔发布的“中国高被引学者”称号,入围由美国斯坦福大学学者发布“全球前2%顶尖科学家名单” 与”终身科学影响力排行榜”榜单,2020年获得专利《一种3D打印模型的数字水印方法》。
