摘要: Ontology is becoming increasingly important as a means of knowledge representation and organization to facilitate information exchange, particularly in the context of the Semantic Web. Currently, most of the existing ontology models can only specify concepts as crisp sets. However, many concepts are without clear boundaries or are vague in meanings. In addition, with respect to a certain category, certain objects can be considered as more typical. Based on the Prototype Theory of concepts in psychology, we propose a formal model for fuzzy ontologies. This model is equipped with likeliness, the extent to which an object is considered as an instance of a concept, and typicality, the representativeness of an object in a concept. This model attempts to enable ontologies to model concepts and bring the results of reasoning closer to human thinking. In the second part of the seminar, we describe TYCO, a typicality based collaborative filtering approach for building recommender systems, which has shown superiority in cases where data are sparse.
