On 18 November 2017, the "Forum on the Development of Economic and Management Education in the New Era", one of the academic and cultural activities of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the School of Economics and Management of SEU and the 100th anniversary of Southeast University’s business department, was held at the Jiulong Lake Campus of Southeast University.
More than a thousand people attended the forum, including Zhang Guangjun, President of Southeast University, Wang Xueqin, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, Huasheng, a famous economist and Honorary Dean of the School of Economics and Management of SEU, Dean Zhao Lindu, Secretary Zhong Weijun, and other experts and scholars from government agencies, education, finance and trade, business and other sectors, as well as distinguished alumni of the School of Economics and Management and representatives of teachers and students.
The forum was an in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Party, focusing on the theme of "New Era, New Mission, New Challenges, New Journey", to discuss the new situation, new tasks and new paths facing the development of economic and management education. Rooted in China, the forum was dedicated to developing world-class economic and management education and writing a new chapter in the development of the School of Economics and Management of SEU in the new era.
Secretary Zhong Weijun presided over the opening session of the forum. The promotional film "Creation in Economics and Management" kicked off the forum, recalling the first business course of Southeast University 100 years ago and the hard work of the School of Economics and Management over the past 30 years, showing the bright vision of creating the future together.

President Zhang Guangjun delivered a speech on behalf of the university, expressing his welcome and gratitude to the leaders, guests and alumni present. After introducing the excellent tradition of the university and the development strategy of "Fine Arts", President Zhang said that nationally renowned experts and alumni from home and abroad had gathered here to discuss the research hotspots and the development path of economic and management education around the theme of "New Era, New Mission, New Challenges, New Journey" proposed by the 19th National Congress, looking forward to the spark of ideas and the consensus of development to contribute new wisdom to the cultivation of first-class talents in the national economy and the construction of modern economic system.
Dean Zhao Lindu recalled the journey of Southeast University's business department over the past 100 years and the development of the School of Economics and Management over the past 30 years, and elaborated on the spiritual connotation of the School's development based on the values of "help the people through the world, to manage and balance", the mission of "cultivate talents from all over the world, forge new knowledge of the past and the present", and the vision of "make the world a productive place".

Afterwards, Professor Wang Xueqin, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, gave a keynote speech entitled "New Era, New Thought, New Idea, New Mission".

Dean Wang gave a precise, in-depth and brilliant interpretation of the report of the 19th National Congress from several aspects, including the basic characteristics of the new era, the distinctive features of the new ideas, the deep connotation of the new concepts and the key role of the new mission. Dean Wang pointed out in the report that education has its own laws, and innovation should also be in accordance with the laws, not for the sake of innovation, and not in the name of innovation to carry out pseudo-innovation that is contrary to the true meaning of innovation. Led by the new development concept, the new cultural mission of social organizations at all levels, including industrial and commercial enterprises and higher education institutions, cannot be separated from the social responsibility and social integrity.
Secretary Zhong Weijun summarized the keynote report, saying that the multifaceted expectations put forward by Dean Wang for the future development of economic and management education are extremely important for the future in-depth study and implementation of the spirit of the 19th National Congress to accelerate the construction of a first-class economic and management school.
Dean Zhao Lindu presided over the roundtable forum. The roundtable forum focused on the new challenges and new journey faced by the development of economic and management education in the new era, and the new connotation and realization path of the four functions of economic and management education in universities: talent cultivation, scientific research, social service and cultural inheritance and creation. The forum guests combined their theoretical research and practical experiences to focus on the challenges faced by China's economic reform, financial industry, enterprise layer and innovation and entrepreneurship field, the problems faced by the national development policy, and expressed their high hopes for the future development of economic and management education and the school.

The afternoon sessions covered "A New Journey in a New Era - Opportunities and Challenges for the Development of Economics and Management Education", "Entrepreneurship Acceleration and Business Model Innovation: A Tripartite Dialogue among Entrepreneurs, Venture Capitalists and Academic Research", "New Mission and New Chapter of Accounting in the New Era", "New Finance Education Development Forum in the New Era", "Economics Education Development Forum in the New Era" and "Frontier Forum on the Integration and Development of E-Commerce and Logistics". Industry elites, distinguished alumni representatives and faculty members had extensive and in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics related to specific areas of economic management.
As science and technology are developing rapidly, the world economy is yet to recover and global problems are intensifying, China's economic development has entered a new normal and is facing an important strategic opportunity period. It is of great significance to scientifically grasp the characteristics of the times, clarify the new mission of economic and management education in the new era, benchmark with the world's top class, strengthen the first-class construction, and realize the rapid development of economic and management education in a connotative manner. The School of Economics and Management of Southeast University successfully held the "New Era Economic and Management Education Development Forum" on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the school and the 100th anniversary of Southeast University’s business department. With the multi-dimensional collision of "industry, academia, research and government", based on the deep integration of academic research and management practice, the forum foresees the upgrading path of economic management education and opens a new journey for the development of economic and management education in the new era!
