Institute of Systems Engineering was established in 1979. In 1993, it founded a PhD program and in 1995, it set up a post-doctoral station. In 2003, it established the master degree programs in System Analysis and Integration, Logistic Engineering and Project Management and the undergraduate programs in Logistic Management. Meanwhile, it established the Department of Logistic Management Engineering. In 2011, the department set up a joint PhD program in first-grade discipline of Statistics. With the support of “the National Key Technology Research and Development Program of China during the Tenth Five-Year Plan Period”, “the Key Project in the National Science & Technology Pillar Program during the Eleventh Five-Year Plan Period”, and other national science and technology major projects, the department has formed its advantages in several academic research directions, such as international logistics, procurement logistics, emergency logistics and dangerous goods logistics. Meanwhile, the department has made ample achievements of international significance in the fields of supply chain and logistics management, complex system analysis and decision, complex system modeling and optimization, information fusion theory and methods, emergency system optimization and control, service science and operations management. It has set up the key logistics research base of Jiangsu Province, Suzhou logistics research center and Suzhou logistics teaching and practicing base. It has also developed national-level quality course programs. It has formalized the principal objective of cultivating advanced talents with “Chinese Mind, World Vision” and has formed its own advantages in three academic research directions of Logistic System Engineering, Logistic Finance and Global Procurement Management.
