To implement the strategic deployment of the school's "Academic Year" and comprehensively enhance the internationalization level of the School of Economics and Management, from June 5 to June 12, 2024, Professor Yuan Jianhong, Secretary of the Party Committee of our school, led a delegation to visit the UK and Norway. The delegation included Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and Vice Dean Yin Wei, Assistant Dean Ding Yi, Director of the Talent Office Wang Yun, and other faculty members. They visited seven universities, including University College London, University of Greenwich, University of Cambridge, University of Manchester, University of Bristol, Cardiff University, and University of South-Eastern Norway. The visits focused on in-depth exchanges on international talent cultivation, recruitment of high-end faculty, and international scientific research cooperation, and were highly successful.
Our delegation held talks with Dean Priti Parikh and Professor Zheng Heran of The Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at University College London, discussing potential collaboration points in scientific research cooperation, academic visits, and talent cultivation. Secretary Yuan expressed that the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University has strong research capabilities in the fields of "dual carbon" and sustainable development. The school has jointly established an undergraduate program in "Energy and Power Engineering + Economics" with the School of Energy and Environment, and hopes to form a long-term stable cooperative relationship with University College London. Dean Priti Parikh expressed her anticipation for cooperation with our school and hopes that both parties can achieve internationally influential collaborative outcomes.
At the University of Greenwich, our delegation engaged in in-depth discussions with several faculty members, including Youkefi, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Accounting, Finance, and Economics, and Nick Hand, Director of International Affairs. The topics included collaborative research, short-term academic visits, and the "2+3" advanced study programs for MBA and EDP students. The discussions resulted in some preliminary agreements and the formulation of a plan for further exchanges.
On June 7, our delegation visited the Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge and held talks with Professor Shi Yongjiang and Chris Pearson. Chris Pearson also serves as the Project Director of the Cambridge University Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation. Professor Shi began by introducing the history of Cambridge and the Department of Engineering, emphasizing the main research directions and talent cultivation at the Institute for Manufacturing, where he is based. Chris Pearson and Professor Yin Wei respectively introduced the Cambridge University Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation and our school's specific situations. Subsequently, both parties engaged in in-depth exchanges on topics such as collaborative research in management science and engineering, and short-term academic visits for undergraduate and MBA students. Secretary Yuan expressed the hope to establish a long-term cooperative relationship in scientific research and short-term academic visits, form a research team focusing on Chinese manufacturing enterprises, and further promote and deepen the cooperation between the Cambridge University Nanjing Centre of Technology and Innovation and our university and school.
On June 8, our delegation traveled from Cambridge to the University of Manchester, where they held discussions with Gao Ning, Deputy Director of the Manchester Centre for Research on Investment and Risk and Professor of Finance (Chair) at the Alliance Manchester Business School, along with his research team and Professor Sze Nie. Both parties introduced the basic situations of their respective schools and engaged in in-depth academic exchanges on research topics such as cryptocurrency, financial markets, and corporate finance. Professor Gao warmly welcomed the visit of our delegation and looked forward to the prospects of cooperation in research and talent cultivation. Secretary Yuan expressed the hope that this visit would serve as a starting point to establish a talent exchange network and deepen the cooperative relationship. He also welcomed high-end talents studying or working at the Alliance Manchester Business School to return to China and start a new chapter of their careers at the School of Economics and Management of Southeast University.
On June 9, the delegation left Manchester for Cardiff. At the invitation of Dr. Chen Yilong and Professor Guanlin (Gary) Wang from the University of Bristol, the delegation visited the University of Bristol Business School to give presentations and conduct talent recruitment, learn about the research developments of doctoral students, and establish a talent connection network.
On June 10, the delegation visited Cardiff University Business School to discuss cooperation in research and teaching. Professor Rachel Ashworth, Dean of Cardiff University Business School, was unable to attend the meeting due to a business trip and delegated Professor Eleri Rosier, Director of Postgraduate Admissions, to chair the meeting. Professor Kul Luintel, Head of the Economics Department, Professor Louise Macniven, Director of Undergraduate Admissions, and Professor Kent Matthews (Sir Julian Hodge Professor of Banking and Finance) participated in the talks. Both parties conducted in-depth discussions on joint training programs at the undergraduate, master's, and doctoral levels, such as "2+2", "3+1", and "3+1+3", forming a preliminary framework for cooperation. They also reached a consensus on promoting collaborative research among faculty through joint student training. Secretary Yuan expressed the hope that both parties could further develop based on the principled consensus and invited Professor Eleri Rosier and other faculty members of Cardiff University Business School to visit our school to promote and deepen the cooperation.
Subsequently, the delegation visited the University of South-Eastern Norway Business School upon invitation. They held discussions with Professor Gillian Warner-Søderholm, Head of the Department of Business, Strategy and Political Sciences, Professor Erik Lankut, as well as postgraduate and undergraduate students and the undergraduate internship coordinator. Both parties engaged in in-depth exchanges on student exchanges, internship opportunities, summer schools, and joint research, expressing a strong willingness to collaborate.
During the visits to the UK and Norway, the delegation also held discussions with Southeast University alumni, Chinese professors, doctoral students, and postdoctoral researchers at the respective universities. They participated in relevant academic seminars and delivered presentations.
